Apparently right now cricket is more popular than football.
Not for long with days like this. Bah. Bloody weather. (Just wait till Monday when all the new fairweather fans will be going, “Whaddya mean, you play for five days and it ends in a draw?”)
Sunday night update: Aussies need 423 to win (this would break several records) and the weather forecast is good (even if the pitch is slow). All we have to do is bowl them out, right?… Can I bear to watch?
Post-mortem, if you missed it: Australia just managed to save themselves from defeat. Yes, it was a draw, but you have never seen a draw quite like this one. If England can continue to play like they have in the last two tests (rather than the first one), this could be our first Ashes win since 1986. (And that’s why everyone is getting excited.)

Well cricket *was* more popular than football.
…until 3pm yesterday afternoon, that is.
Now it’s time for normality to be restored. And, two and a half months on from the amazing events of May 25th, I’ve now actually accepted that it *did* actually happen and it wasn’t all just some fantastic dream.

What next? My guess is a dull washed-out draw in the fourth with an absolute epic decider at the Oval, where Ashley Giles gets a hundred in the fourth innings.
I don’t think we’ll ever have a better chance to beat ’em. They’ve made one 100 between ’em in three tests. Who’d have thunk it?
