I’m leaving the comment spam from ‘Texas hold-em’ where it is for the moment (deleted now) because I have a question. It’s one thing for the odd spam to get through the defences (although that’s not the first one today, which is a bit worrying). BUT HOW DID IT MANAGE TO PUT A COMMENT ON AN OLD POST WHERE COMMENTS HAVE BEEN CLOSED? I mean, that shouldn’t be possible, right? Anybody know what’s going on and if there’s anything I should (or could) do about it?

Early Modern Notes 
The only thing I can think of is that the spammer manipulates the comments script to get around the fact that comments have been closed, and so the spam gets straight into your database. I don’t know enough about wordpress to be able to say if that is actually possible, though. Have you updated to wordpress 1.5? It’s supposed to be a lot better with comment spam.
So I’m hearing. I just haven’t had time to do it yet… Urrgh.
I don’t know if this has happened before – I don’t think so, although I noticed particularly because this was the very first post on the blog.
Apparently, the comments aren’t really closed – it’s just that the form for humans to post comments is shut down. It seems that 1.5 hasn’t fixed this either. The support forums are great though!
