Here’s something rather wonderful from the BBC History website: Your Photo Gallery.
They invite people to scan and send their old family photos to be included. Most are accompanied by the senders’ comments and little histories.
There’s a themed search and more advanced keyword searches, as well as four themes to browse:
How about this late Victorian policeman? Or a wedding just after World War I, and one during World War II?
This is among the oldest (from c.1850) and this one of the most recent (2001).
There are photos of places as well as people, and no doubt all sorts of other things too.
